On 9 June 1902, shortly after the Anglo-Boer War had ended, the Marquis of Tullibardine raised the Tranvaal Scottish Volunteers, as an infantry unit to be part of the embryonic Defence Fore of the Transvaal Colony. In 1910 the name was changed into The Transvaal Scottish. In October 1927, the Transvaal Scottish was affiliated to The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment).
Sidenote: According to Aad Boode (the deviser of the dance), the tune was also composed by Bill Clement also in 2002 (same year as the dance itself).
Bill Clement (the composer of the dance’s tune) served in The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) from May 1942 to April 1947; he joined the 10th Battalion Pipe Band in January 1943 and was acting Pipe-Major from January 1946. He joined the Atholl Highlanders in October 1947.
